The geek glasses here will help the audience recognise that he is a geek. They may also symbolise that he is a shy character, hiding behind his big glasses. He is the character with the main focus on him. The narrative follows him in his transformation from shy geek, to confident popular kid.
We want the hair to be curly/frizzy. Again this will help the audience recognise that he is a geek. This will change towards the end of the song as his image transforms.
